Former Chelsea Star Pat Nevin emphasizes the importance of defensive contributions for Enzo Fernandez

Enzo Fernandez, a key figure for Chelsea, has been advised by club legend Pat Nevin to step up his defensive efforts.

Nevin shared his thoughts in the aftermath of Chelsea’s recent 0-2 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League.

In the absence of Reece James, Fernandez led the team as captain but was unable to assist in securing a victory at home under the management of Enzo Maresca.

The goals from Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic secured the win for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City against the Blues.

Commenting on Fernandez’s performance, Nevin expressed on BBC Radio 5 Live, “Enzo’s impact in the number 10 role has been notably subdued.”

“Occupying that central position requires being involved in every aspect of the game. Players like Conor Gallagher might feel they could offer more in that regard.”

Nevin continued, “Enzo needs to not only contribute offensively but also step up his defensive responsibilities by tracking back and protecting the team.”
