Rescue Mission Launched by IG to Save Kidnapped Benue Medical Students

An order has been issued by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for the deployment of tactical operatives and assets to swiftly rescue the kidnapped medical students in Benue State.

On Thursday, twenty medical students from the University of Maiduguri and Jos were abducted while they were travelling to Enugu along the Otukpo/Otukpa/Enugu Road.

These students were on their way to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students’ annual convention in Enugu when the abduction occurred.

In a statement released by the Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, the IG condemned the abduction of the students, describing the actions of the criminals as reprehensible and heartless.

Egbetokun has instructed the deployment of a significant number of human and technical resources to reinforce the manpower of the Benue State Command for the quick rescue of the students.

The IG is quoted as saying, “The kidnapping of 20 medical students in Otukpo, Benue State is condemned by the Inspector-General of Police. This despicable act is truly shocking, heartless, and not acceptable.

“In a firm demonstration of commitment to the rescue, safety, and well-being of these young Nigerians, the IGP has directed the swift deployment of a substantial number of human and technical resources to strengthen the Benue State Command’s manpower and ensure the rapid rescue of our dear students. “

Adejobi also mentioned that tactical operatives, helicopters, drones, and vehicles will be mobilized to aid in the students’ rescue.

He further stated, “This effort will involve the dispatch of additional tactical units from the FID-STS and FID-IRT, the deployment of advanced helicopters and drones, and the utilization of specialized tactical vehicles to assist in the search and ensure the safe return of the victims.

“The Nigeria Police Force stands in solidarity with the victims and their families during this difficult period, and we are dedicated to guaranteeing the safe return of the students.”
