Atiku Urges Opposition Parties to Emulate Unity from IBB Babangida

Expressing his views on Saturday, Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, emphasized that opposition political parties should draw inspiration from the unity exhibited by former Military Head of State, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.

According to Atiku, possessing a personality that commands attention and captivates all who come across it, akin to IBB, is a rare quality.

He observed that Babangida stands out as a unique statesman due to the allure of his name and his welcoming demeanor.

Sharing his thoughts on X, Atiku’s post highlighted the remarkable military career of IBB and his embrace of inclusive politics as defining characteristics of his enigmatic persona.

“In an era where ethno-religious prejudices often dominate our national politics, IBB serves as a beacon for the importance of fostering unity amidst diversity. While some scholars draw parallels between IBB’s governance and the strategies advocated in Niccolò Machiavelli’s works, underscoring his strategic acumen, my perspective differs. I believe that IBB’s leadership pursued noble objectives in its ethical pursuit of a nation where our diversity could be harmoniously managed through a shared commitment to unity.

“IBB’s federalist leanings are evident in his administration’s makeup.

“Today, a troubling trend of bigotry and ethnocentric divisions persists in our nation, with some officials in positions of power perpetuating such divisive tendencies.

“Unfortunately, contemporary politics has become polarized, with some politicians erroneously holding the belief that power should be pursued at any cost.

“As we commemorate General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida on his 83rd birthday, let us reflect on our values concerning national unity and the advancement of Nigeria as a nation that rejects primordial inclinations for progress.

“It is this desire for a renewal that compels me to once again call on opposition political parties in the country to unite and elevate our democracy to live up to its principles.” -AA
