Fulham boss Marco Silva reflects on Man Utd 1-0 defeat

Following Fulham’s 1-0 loss to Manchester United, Marco Silva, the manager, shared his thoughts on the match that took place on Friday night.

Silva’s squad kicked off the new Premier League season with a defeat at Old Trafford.

Despite having several opportunities to find the back of the net, the visitors were unable to capitalize and were eventually punished by Joshua Zirkzee, who came on as a substitute.

Zirkzee sealed the victory for Erik ten Hag’s side by converting Alejandro Garnacho’s delivery in the 88th minute.

Reflecting on the match, Silva commented, “We had a solid start and created some promising counter-attacking situations. We made adjustments during halftime, and the second half showed an improvement.”

He added, “There were instances where we had good opportunities, but we failed to make the most of them.”

Addressing the team’s performance, Silva noted, “Our primary focus should have been on maintaining emotional composure. As the game became more open, we needed to retain our shape and stay organized. Unfortunately, we lost our emotional control during critical junctures, allowing our opponents to capitalize.”

Concluding his remarks, Silva said, “The game turned into a bit of a frenzied affair, and we started making hasty decisions, resulting in losing possession too quickly. We allowed emotions to get the better of us, which was not our intention.”
