Gun Concealed in Bag of Garri by Suspected Arms Supplier

A 30-year-old woman named Hauwa Yusuf was apprehended by the Special Tactical Squad operatives for secreting an AK-47 and four AK magazines within a sack of garri.

The arrest took place on the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway during a routine stop-and-search operation.

During the parade of suspects at the STS Headquarters in Abuja on Friday, the Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, revealed this development.

It was further disclosed that Yusuf admitted to being sent by a notorious bandit, Aminu Basullube, who is known for causing havoc in Katsina State, to pick up the arms at Danum Madam Camp, Katsina State.

Adejobi stated, “On August 14, 2024, following intelligence reports, STS operatives intercepted Hauwa Yusuf, a 30-year-old woman from Dutsin-Ma LGA of Katsina State.

“She was nabbed while traveling from Lafia, Nasarawa State, to Katsina State in a Sienna Bus along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.

“After a search, an AK-47 rifle with no serial number and four AK magazines concealed in a white sack of garri were discovered in her possession.

“During questioning, Yusuf confessed that the arms were from Aminu Basullube, the notorious bandit operating in the general Katsina State region, and she was tasked to receive them at Danum Madam Camp, Katsina State.”

When questioned by reporters, Yusuf claimed ignorance of the gun hidden in the garri sack.

She explained, “I had no idea there was a weapon inside. I was asked to go and retrieve millet. Sadly, they didn’t bring garri for me. Even when I saw the object, I was wary.”

Adejobi also mentioned that a team of FID-STS operatives was dispatched to Igbowo in Oyo State on April 29 to look into the activities of Musa Saidu.
