Steel Mill and Businesses in Osun Closed due to Tax Evasion

Prism Steel Mill in Ikirun and several business establishments in Ede have been shut down by the Osun State Government for failing to comply with tax regulations.

The Osun State Internal Revenue Service Information Officer, Seun Ayeni, revealed in a statement in Osogbo that a team led by the OIRS chairman, Mr. Adesola Adewumi, took action to seal the steel company and other non-compliant businesses.

Adewumi noted that the affected businesses disregarded the demand notice sent to them by the Internal Revenue Service.

In a statement attributed to Adewumi, it was stated, “Prism Steel Rolling Mill and others were issued a demand notice to fulfill their tax obligations and contribute to the state revenue. However, they neglected their responsibilities.”

“Their failure to meet their obligations resulted in the closure of their business premises,” Adewumi explained.

The OIRS chairman emphasized that all businesses in the state were given a deadline to settle their outstanding taxes, expressing disappointment over their non-compliance.

“We are fortunate to have a governor like Senator Ademola Adeleke in Osun State who is keen on avoiding closures of businesses. They were given until July 31st this year to rectify the situation,” he commented.

He urged businesses in the state to fulfill their tax duties promptly.

Earlier reports from NewsNow indicated that the Osun State Internal Revenue Service had taken action against tax evading businesses, with enforcement measures commencing after the payment deadline passed.
