Ed Sheeran shows support for Ipswich Town with 1.4% ownership stake

English pop sensation Ed Sheeran has recently acquired a 1.4% stake in Ipswich Town Football Club, a team playing in the English Premier League.

Having been a devoted fan of the club for years, the 33-year-old singer-songwriter has extended his support beyond just being a shirt sponsor for both the men’s and women’s teams since 2021.

Despite this investment, Ed Sheeran will not be actively involved in the club’s board decisions, as his stake is a passive and minority one.

Expressing his excitement, Sheeran shared, “I am thrilled to now own a small part of my hometown football club. It’s a dream come true for any football supporter to have ownership in the team they love, and I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity.”

The upcoming 2024/25 season marks Ipswich Town’s return to the top tier of English football after a 22-year hiatus.

Mark Ashton, the chairman of Ipswich, also commented on Sheeran’s involvement, stating, “The continuous support from Ed and his team over the past few years has been truly remarkable. His decision to invest in the club feels like a natural progression in our partnership.”

Ipswich Town will kick off their new season with a home match against Liverpool this Saturday.
