A well-known Nigerian entrepreneur and public figure, Obinna Oyiegbu known as Obi Cubana, has shared that longevity is uncommon in his family, as no member has lived beyond the age of 80.
Obi Cubana mentioned that despite his late mother’s efforts to break this trend, she passed away at the age of 79, just shy of reaching 80.
During a conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwu, Obi Cubana explained that his family opted for an extravagant funeral for his mother as she was unable to overcome the family’s longevity pattern.
He remarked, “In my family, reaching 80 years of age is rare. This is the first time I am sharing this information. My father passed away at 66, my grandmother at 75, my grandfather at 78, and sadly, the same fate befell my mother.”
“All my siblings are happily married and thriving, and we had hoped that my mother would be the one to break this pattern. We had even started saving for a grand celebration in anticipation. However, she passed away on December 31, at 79 years of age, shortly after turning 78.” he added.
“I considered that she almost made it at 79, so we decided to commemorate her efforts. We organized an elaborate event for her burial to honor her and recognize her attempt to defy our family’s generational trend,” Obi Cubana concluded.
