The alleged police shooting in viral video debunked as fake news by Delta command

Denying the allegations of officers attached to Dragon 15 shooting a young man in the Morsogar area of Delta State on Tuesday, the Delta State Police Command sets the record straight.

A circulating video on social media claimed that a police officer shot a young man in Delta State for refusing to give them money, but the command stepped in to clarify the situation.

In a statement published on X.com on Thursday, SP Edafe Bright, the command’s spokesperson, labeled the video as fake news. He emphasized that any officers found guilty of misconduct would face appropriate consequences. “We don’t shield bad eggs,” he stated.

Edafe’s message was clear, “Say no to fake news! In response to the fake video that went viral yesterday, policemen attached to Dragon 15 shot a boy in Morsogar on Tuesday.

“After explaining that he was not shot to the best of my ability, the CP instructed the team to locate the boy and have him share his side of the story to the world.

“I appeal to bloggers to kindly share this just as they did with the fake video that went viral.”

The young man featured in the video spoke with Edafe, recounting the incident.

According to him, “The policeman simply pushed me, and I lost consciousness. I was then taken to the hospital. The police did not shoot me.”

Edafe encouraged citizens to have faith in the police force, cooperate with law enforcement officers, and allow them to carry out their duties.

“It is crucial for Nigerians to verify information. Not everything on social media should be taken at face value. Verify details, analyze videos, and conduct investigations before jumping to conclusions,” he emphasized.
