Swearing-in of Ango and Four Permanent Secretaries in FCT

Ango, the newly appointed Mandate Secretary for Youth Development, was sworn in together with four Permanent Secretaries of the Federal Capital Territory Administration on Thursday, August 15, 2024. The ceremony was brief and overseen by Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister.

During the swearing-in, the Minister emphasized the importance of the new appointees working towards the overall progress of the FCT. He highlighted that these appointments were in line with the commitments made and honored by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Assuring the residents of FCT, Wike reiterated that the President remains dedicated to fulfilling promises made and urged for patience, promising imminent improvements locally and nationally.

Explaining the rationale behind establishing a Secretariat for Youth Development and appointing its mandate secretary, Wike mentioned extensive consultations with area councils and stakeholders, responding to the youth’s demand for such a structure in FCT.

He gave the new secretary the task of devising initiatives to engage and uplift the young population in FCT.

Wike remarked, “President’s commitments are always honored. It’s crucial to be patient, as the President is actively working to ease current challenges. Your role as Mandate Secretary for Youths requires strategic plans to empower them.”

“You must strategize on youth development in Abuja. President has fulfilled his promise, now it’s your turn to collaborate on youth empowerment programs, entrepreneurship, and alleviating hardships. Any lapses will be your responsibility.”

Additionally, Wike urged the new permanent secretaries to perform diligently or opt for resignation if incapable of meeting the roles’ demands.

He stated, “My expectation from the new permanent secretaries is commitment and productivity. If you feel unable to deliver effectively, resigning would be better.”

The Minister, acknowledging the President’s efforts to address stagnation issues among civil servants in FCTA, emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards slackness.
