Imams in Niger call for the perpetrators of RCCG church fire to be arrested

Following the recent burning of the Kontagora headquarters of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, the Niger State Forum of Imams has condemned the act and demanded that the culprits be apprehended.

On Sunday, a group of suspected hoodlums reportedly attacked the church, which was still under construction, and set it ablaze.

Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, also expressed his condemnation of the incident.

Umar Abdullahi, the Director General of the Niger State Bureau of Religious Affairs and Secretary General of the Niger State Imams Forum, led a delegation of Imams to offer condolences to the Niger State chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Most Rev. Bulus Yohana, at the CAN secretariat in Minna.

Liman MashaAllah, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Religious Affairs, conveyed Abdullahi’s message, emphasizing unity and peace among all citizens.

Abdullahi’s statement highlighted the need to work together to combat those seeking to disrupt the peace in the state and bring the perpetrators of the church burning to justice.

The state CAN Chairman, also the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, praised the Bureau for showing solidarity with the Christian community and the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Kontagora.

Rev. Ezekiel Ibrahim, representing the state CAN Chairman, stressed the importance of cooperation between religious groups to maintain peace and confront those who aim to sow discord.
