Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun Recommended by NJC for CJN, along with 28 others for Judicial Positions

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received a recommendation from the National Judicial Council (NJC) for the appointment of Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Kekere-Ekun as the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN.

The necessity for this recommendation arises as Justice Olukayode Ariwoola is set to retire from the position of Chief Justice of Nigeria next week Thursday, on August 22, 2024.

If approved, Justice Kekere-Ekun would become the second female Chief Justice of Nigeria, following in the footsteps of Mouktar Aloma, who was the first female CJN.

Additionally, the NJC has recommended 28 candidates for judgeships in various state courts and a nominee for the position of Kadi of the Sharia Court of the FCT, Abuja, to their respective State Governors.

The decision was reached at the 106th Meeting of the NJC, presided over by the outgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.

A statement containing the recommendations was released on Thursday by Mr. Soji Oye, the Director of Information at the NJC.

Further details will be provided at a later time.
