In a horrific incident, gunmen carried out a deadly attack on two farms in Niger State, resulting in the killing of a farm manager and the abduction of three individuals.
Reports from PUNCH Metro indicate that the unnamed farm manager of one of the farms situated on the outskirts of Sabon-Wuse community in Tafa Local Government Area bravely confronted the armed bandits, only to meet a tragic end as he was fatally shot.
The terrifying event unfolded in the early hours of a Sunday when the criminals separately invaded the farmhouses. The manager lost his life in one of the farmhouses, while three farm workers were taken captive from the other.
The commander of the security vigilante group in Tafa, Hussaini Abubakar, disclosed that the gunmen initially abducted the three individuals and then resorted to violence, killing the manager when he attempted to intervene as they were fleeing the scene.
Abubakar recounted, “The manager was one of those who confronted the gunmen, but tragically, he was fatally shot in the process.”
Providing further details, Abubakar noted that the attack occurred around 2 am, emphasizing that no livestock were stolen from the farmhouses during the operation.
He mentioned that the perpetrators managed to escape before the arrival of law enforcement or the vigilante group, who responded approximately ten minutes later.
The spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, also verified the incident and stated that two individuals were taken captive. He assured the public that efforts were underway to secure the safe release of the victims.
Abiodun reported, “On August 11, 2024, at approximately 01:00, we received information regarding an armed attack on a residence at Angwan-Aso, via Sabon-Wuse.
“The police team from the Sabon-Wuse Police Division, under the supervision of the Divisional Police Officer, rushed to the scene but the assailants had already fled with the victims.
“During the assault, one of the security guards at a nearby poultry farm engaged in a skirmish with the criminals, sustaining gunshot wounds, while two individuals were abducted.
“Tragically, the injured guard succumbed to his injuries at Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Hospital in the town. Our ongoing efforts are dedicated to ensuring the safe return of the abducted victims.”
