Reports from Zaria, Kaduna State, reveal a deeply disturbing incident in which a 16-year-old boy named Abubakar was buried alive by his two siblings following a dispute over a missing phone.

After a concerned individual stumbled upon Abubakar’s head sticking out of a hole in an abandoned property, the brothers, aged 22 and 18, were apprehended by law enforcement authorities.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that the siblings engaged in a heated argument regarding the missing phone in Abuja, where they were employed. Subsequently, they tracked Abubakar to Zaria and subjected him to the horrific ordeal of being buried alive as a form of punishment.

The Commissioner of Human Services and Social Development in the state, Rabi Salisu, affirmed the incident, emphasizing the shocking nature of the crime. She expressed disbelief at the barbaric act of burying a young boy due to a missing phone.

Salisu remarked, “The perpetrators, aged 22 and 18, have been taken into custody by the police. Our priority is to ensure justice is served in safeguarding the rights of children and upholding the law in Kaduna State.”

Further confirmation came from the spokesperson of the state police command, Mansir Hassan, who disclosed that the investigation is underway and that the suspects have admitted to their heinous actions. They are currently detained and will face legal consequences soon.

In response to the distressing event, the state Ministry of Human Services and Social Development has swiftly taken action to address the situation. The statement released by the commissioner reiterated the government’s condemnation of the act and its commitment to protecting the welfare of all citizens, particularly children.

It was emphasized that Abubakar Aliyu, the victim, survived the ordeal, and the culprits, Yahaya Abdulkadir (20) and Abdul Abdulkadir (17), have been arrested. The ministry assured the public of continuous monitoring and ensuring that justice prevails as the investigation progresses.
