Statement from Otti: Former Abia State Commissioner cleared of fraud accusations

Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, the previous Commissioner for Health in Abia State, recently resigned from her position following a suspension by the state government. She was warmly welcomed and honored by her community in Bende Local Government Area after being absolved of financial wrongdoing by an official inquiry.

In a recent media interaction, Governor Alex Otti clarified that Dr. Okoronkwo’s resignation followed the submission of a committee report that found no evidence of financial malfeasance, but criticized her conduct. Although there were no findings of misappropriation, certain protocols were breached, prompting the commissioner to step down. Otti acknowledged her decision and emphasized that no funds were mismanaged or stolen.

The residents of Amaokwe Item in Bende celebrated Dr. Okoronkwo’s exoneration with a gathering at the Item Mini Stadium. She was honored by community leaders for her service as Health Commissioner and presented with accolades for her dedication to improving healthcare facilities, including the restoration of Umunneato Hospital.

Dr. Okoronkwo expressed her gratitude for the support and expressed her commitment to Governor Otti’s administration and the Labour Party. She highlighted the accomplishments during her tenure and encouraged continued backing for Otti’s initiatives in the state.

Supporting Dr. Okoronkwo’s commendable service, Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Chimezie Ukaegbu, praised her contributions and affirmed the government’s appreciation for her efforts.
