Government’s Initiative to Enroll 11,000 Almajiris in FCT Schools

The Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, announced that over 11,000 out-of-school children in the Federal Capital Territory would be attending schools by September 2024.

In collaboration with Commissioners of Education from northern states, the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education vowed to visit the six area councils in the capital city to identify and enroll a minimum of 10,000 out-of-school children by September.

During a visit to the FCT Smart School in Karshi with the Minister of State for Education, Tanko Sununu, Mamman reaffirmed the government’s dedication to addressing the issue of out-of-school children.

Highlighting the efforts, Mamman mentioned, “Over 11,000 Almajiris were identified in the Federal Capital Territory alone, and they are set to be enrolled in various schools nationwide by September.”

Furthermore, he emphasized the government’s plan to establish a smart school in each state of the federation, with 26 already established and construction ongoing for the rest.

The aim is to provide a technology-focused educational system from kindergarten to junior secondary school, allowing students to be proficient in digital skills. Teachers will play a crucial role in not only teaching but also designing the curriculum.
