Update on Operations: Terrorists Neutralized and Surrenders Recorded in Borno by the Army

A recent counter-terrorism operation in the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State led to the elimination of at least five terrorists by Nigerian Army troops.

The operation on August 12, 2024, also resulted in the recovery of explosives, two rocket-propelled guns, and six motorcycles among other items from the terrorists.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Army reported that 44 Boko Haram terrorists and their families voluntarily surrendered to the troops stationed in Bama, Dikwa, and Gwoza Local Government Areas of Borno State.

During the operation on August 12, 2024, a raid was conducted on an enclave belonging to the Islamic State West Africa Province militants in Bama. Apart from neutralizing five terrorists, the troops confiscated various weapons and items such as rocket-propelled guns, bombs, Dane guns, and motorcycles along with ammunition and medications.

“Furthermore, due to the successful offensive operations against the terrorist organizations in the North-East region, 44 Boko Haram members and their families surrendered to the military personnel stationed in Bama, Dikwa, and Gwoza Local Government Areas of Borno State.”

The announcement also mentioned, “The troops apprehended a notorious cattle thief, Mallam Maawuya Shuaibu, in Mararaban Kantom, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.”

“The suspect, who had been under surveillance by security agencies for involvement in criminal activities in Barikin Ladi, Riyom, and Mangu Local Government areas, was captured following credible intelligence on his illicit actions. Additionally, 32 stolen cows were recovered from the suspect,” stated the Army.

Meanwhile, in Bayelsa State, the Nigerian Army disclosed that troops carried out raid operations in suspected criminal hideouts within the Korokorosie Community of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

During the operation, Mr. Donald Emason was arrested, and one revolver pistol along with two locally-made firearms were seized as they were concealed by the suspect.

“Likewise, in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, troops detained Mohammed Bello, a suspected arms trafficker aged 33. The apprehended individual admitted to being involved in supplying weapons and ammunition to the Bello Chikidawoje’s kidnapping gang operating in the vicinity,” the Army detailed further.
