Troops in Borno State eliminate five terrorists, as 44 others surrender

In the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, troops engaged in counter-terrorism operations have successfully taken down five terrorists.

During an operation conducted on August 12, 2024, the Nigerian Army troops not only eliminated the terrorists but also seized explosives, a Rocket Propel Gun, and six motorcycles, among other items.

According to a statement by the Army on X.com, 44 Boko Haram insurgents and their families surrendered to troops stationed in Bama, Dikwa, and Gwoza Local Government Areas of Borno state.

The statement disclosed, “On August 12, 2024, a raid operation was carried out by troops on an Islamic West Africa Province terrorists’ hideout in the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State. The operation led to the neutralization of five terrorists and the recovery of weapons such as two Rocket Propel Gun Bombs, two Dane guns, one RPG Bomb Charger, one AK-47 Rifle Magazine, 23 rounds of 7.62 x 54 mm ammunition, six motorcycles, and various medical supplies.

“Moreover, as a result of sustained offensive operations against terrorist factions in the North East region, 44 Boko Haram militants and their families surrendered to troops deployed in Bama, Dikwa, and Gwoza Local Government Areas of Borno State.”

The military further announced the apprehension of a notorious cattle rustler named Maawuya Shuaibu in Plateau State, with the recovery of 32 rustled cows from him.

“In Plateau State, troops successfully captured a notorious cattle rustler, Mallam Maawuya Shuaibu, at Mararaban Kantom in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state. The suspect, who has been under the scrutiny of security agencies for involvement in criminal activities within the general areas of Barikin Ladi, Riyom, and Mangu Local Government areas of the state, was nabbed as vigilant troops acted on credible intelligence regarding the suspect’s criminal deeds. The troops seized 32 rustled cows from the suspect,” the statement mentioned.

In another operation, troops delved into suspected criminal hideouts in the Korokorosie Community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The statement revealed, “The operation led to the arrest of Mr. Donald Emason, where one Revolver pistol and two locally-made guns were discovered, hidden by the suspect.

“Additionally, in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, troops detained a suspected arms dealer, Mohammed Bello, 33 years old. The individual, apprehended at his hideout, confessed to being a courier involved in transporting weapons and ammunition to the Bello Chikidawoje’s kidnapping gang operating within the designated region.”
