The collapse of Chelsea’s deal for Omorodion as uncertainty looms over Gallagher and Alvarez

The proposed £34.5m move of Chelsea for Samu Omorodion, the Atletico Madrid forward, has fallen apart due to contract-related issues. This has left the futures of Conor Gallagher and Julian Alvarez in a state of uncertainty.

As the deal for Omorodion crumbled, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are now assessing other possibilities, with potential talks of Joao Felix returning to London on the table. The Portuguese striker had a loan spell at Stamford Bridge back in 2023.

Despite this setback, Manchester City remains hopeful about Alvarez’s prospective transfer to Atletico Madrid. The Spanish club had reached terms on a substantial £82m deal for the Argentine international, which would have marked a considerable profit for City.

Skysports reported on Monday, “As far as Manchester City are concerned, they still expect the Alvarez deal to go through. Atletico agreed to pay £64m (€75m) up front with a further £17m (€20m) of potential add-ons for Alvarez, which would have been a record sale for City and a huge profit on the £14m they paid River Plate for the Argentina forward in January 2022.”

Alvarez has been instrumental for City, featuring in 103 matches and netting 36 goals since his arrival. His accolades include two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, the Champions League, the Super Cup, and the Club World Cup.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s transfer activities are in full swing. The Blues have already secured the services of multiple players in this transfer window, such as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Omari Kellyman, and Marc Guiu, among others.

The situation with Gallagher remains unresolved, as the midfielder underwent part of his medical at Atletico last week. Failure to agree on new contract terms with Chelsea has left the door ajar for his potential departure.

In other news, Sky Germany has stated that Armando Broja is “prepared to make a move” to Stuttgart, with initial discussions in progress. The Chelsea forward has also attracted attention from various Premier League clubs, including Everton and Southampton.

The transfer window is fast approaching its deadline of August 30, leading to a frantic rush among clubs to finalize their deals.
