Extension of Dangote Refinery’s Petrol Supply Commencement Date

It appears that the commencement of domestic petrol supply by Dangote Refinery will be delayed from its initial target date in mid-August 2024.

Aliko Dangote, the President of Dangote Group, had initially announced a proposed kick-off date of 10-12 August 2024 for petrol supply commencement.

The refinery had previously pushed back the petrol supply date from July to August.

While no official statement has been released regarding the delay, a source informed NewsNow that the refinery’s challenges in crude supply, with its 650,000 barrels per day capacity, are likely contributing to the delay.

“The commencement of fuel will indeed happen in August, but the ongoing crude supply challenges are posing difficulties,” mentioned a source to NewsNow on the condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, there has been a recent dispute between Dangote Group and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission concerning 26 million barrels of crude cargoes.

In response to Dangote’s push for the implementation of the Domestic Crude Obligation as stipulated in the Petroleum Industry Act, NUPRC claimed to have facilitated 26 million barrels of crude cargoes for Dangote Refinery between January and June 2024.

However, Dangote Group refuted receiving this volume of barrels.

The company continues to assert that NUPRC and International Oil Companies in Nigeria are hindering its fuel production commencement.

Despite President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention to direct the sale of crude oil to Dangote Refinery and other local refineries in Naira, challenges persist.

In response to these events, the Centre for Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE) expressed concerns over regulatory disruptions faced by Nigerian manufacturers in a statement by its Director, Muda Yusuf on Sunday.
