Transforming Lagos State Ferries: Caverton Marine Collaborates with ExploMar

A strategic partnership has been formed between Caverton Marine Limited, a prominent provider of marine logistics services in Nigeria, and ExploMar (Suzhou) Energy Technology Co. Ltd. of China. This collaboration signifies a significant leap towards sustainable transportation in Nigeria. Caverton Marine has integrated electric outboard engines from ExploMar into their newly launched passenger ferries known as OMIBUS.

The recently commissioned OMIBUS ferries, constructed by Caverton Marine in Lagos, Nigeria, are poised to revolutionize water transportation in the region. By incorporating ExploMar’s electric outboard systems, Caverton Marine enhances both operational efficiency and sustainability by reducing carbon emissions and environmental impact.

In partnership with the Lagos State government, Caverton Marine initiated a pilot program for the OMIBUS to evaluate operating costs. The removal of fuel subsidies during this pilot program revealed significant insights into operational expenses and the subsequent impact on ferry ticket prices. This underscores the pressing need for exploring cleaner and more cost-effective propulsion options for ferries.

These state-of-the-art electric outboard systems are designed by ExploMar for optimal performance and reliability, offering quieter and more cost-effective alternatives compared to traditional fossil fuel engines.

Bode Makanjuola, CEO of Group Caverton Offshore Support Group, expressed, “This partnership with ExploMar is a momentous step towards sustainable maritime operations.
