Outreach Program Brings Medical Assistance to Lagos Community

A non-governmental organization, Sustainable Development Goals for Her Initiative, in collaboration with Total Health Trust and Alternative Bank’s Food Bank project, recently conducted a health drive for over 200 women in Makoko, a coastal settlement in mainland Lagos.

The outreach event held in the community included health talks, diagnoses, and preventive healthcare services for women and children to evaluate their healthcare needs.

Hannah Ayilaran-Omon, the founder of SDGforHer, mentioned that the organization has positively impacted more than 1,500 women and children in the past 10 months.

Discussing the initiative, she emphasized the importance of early intervention in combating infections and diseases, especially in communities where traditional medicine remains predominant.

Furthermore, she stated, “Through our collaboration with Health Maintenance Organizations, we have distributed health cards and will analyze the obtained data to identify individuals requiring medical intervention, followed by tailored solutions based on the gathered information.”

Solomon Okonkwo, Head of Corporate Social Investment at Alternative Bank, stressed the necessity of a collective approach to providing assistance to women and children in underserved areas.

He expressed, “We strongly believe in partnerships and community empowerment, striving to offer financial support through sustainable solutions, enhancing their accessibility to essential services.”

Dr. Eyitayo Abejide from Total Health Trust remarked, “Our partnership with SDGforHer aligns with the sustainable development goals of eradicating poverty and ensuring overall well-being. This collaboration exemplifies our commitment to supporting not only women but everyone in need of healthcare.”

Adedayo Kolade, a widow representing the female beneficiaries, extended gratitude to SDGforHer and their collaborators for the impactful outreach program.

The medical checkups conducted during the event covered various aspects such as blood pressure, blood sugar levels, Body Mass Index assessments, and antenatal examinations for pregnant women.
