Charges against woman for ticket forgery and fraudulent $2,500 acquisition

Arraigned before the Ebute-Metta Magistrate Court in Lagos State, 41-year-old Adenike Salami faces allegations of forging an airline ticket and deceitfully obtaining $2,500.

Presented before Magistrate Waliu Salami, she is accused of conspiracy, fraud, and forgery by the police.

The court was informed by the prosecutor that the defendant, along with yet to be apprehended collaborators, conspired in the presumed crimes.

Claimed by the prosecution is that on June 27, 2024, approximately at 7:20 PM, at No. 26, Olomowewe Street, Mushin, Lagos, Salami deceitfully acquired $2,500, equivalent to about N4.5 million.

Salami’s alleged actions involved the production of a phony Taag-Linhas Airline ticket without authorization and subsequent deception to obtain money from Catherine Mbaku, who sought to buy a ticket to Bolivia.

Salami was accused of persuading Catherine Mbaku to give up $2,500 under false pretenses by promising a forged airline ticket.

Contravening Sections 406, 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, and punishable under Sections 370(1)(2), and 314(1)(a)(b)(2)(3), the charges filed against Salami detail the offenses committed.

Salami pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was granted bail by the magistrate in the amount of N500,000, requiring two sureties of similar sum.

The magistrate ordered that the sureties demonstrate their means of livelihood, provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government, and have their addresses verified.

The case has been scheduled for mention on September 20, 2024.
