Confirmation of Police Operation at NLC Secretariat

It has been acknowledged by the Nigeria Police Force that a high-profile operation was carried out at the national secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, situated in the Central Business District of Abuja.

An official statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, clarified that the purpose of the operation was to apprehend a key suspect, a foreign national involved in various criminal activities not only in Nigeria but also in other African countries.

The statement emphasized that the focus of the operation was a rented shop within the building, used by the suspect as a cover for his criminal dealings in Nigeria, and not the NLC Secretariat itself.

Following a statement from the NLC’s Head of Media and Public Relations, concerns were raised regarding the presence of police officers, individuals in black T-shirts, and others in plainclothes who conducted a raid at the Labour House.

The police clarified that the operation was completely unrelated to the NLC, its secretariat, employees, or leadership.

In their statement, the police addressed the situation, stating: “A prime criminal suspect in an ongoing investigation was traced to a shop within the building in the Central Business District, Abuja. Detectives, armed with the necessary legal authority, carried out an operation at the location, which happened to be the NLC building.”

The official communication continued, reaffirming the legality and targeted nature of the operation, solely intended to apprehend the suspect who posed a significant security risk to Nigeria and other African nations.

The Nigeria Police Force sought the collaboration and understanding of the NLC leadership in the ongoing investigation, recognizing its importance in ensuring the safety of all parties involved.

The continued investigation was highlighted as crucial in safeguarding the nation against potential security threats posed by the suspect, underlining the significance of cooperation between the police and the NLC.
