Emergency NEC meeting called by NLC in response to invasion

Amid the invasion of its headquarters on Wednesday night, the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, have called for an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting scheduled for Saturday.

Condemnation of the invasion has been expressed by the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria, LAWAN, joining the growing chorus of concerned organizations and individuals.

On Wednesday night, heavily armed policemen along with individuals in plain clothes reportedly invaded the NLC Headquarters in Abuja, commonly known as Labour House.

The security operatives, instilling fear, forcefully entered the Labour House shortly before 9 pm and conducted searches on both the Second and 10th floors.

According to the NLC, “They forcibly entered the second floor, conducted searches in offices including a bookshop, and confiscated various materials, including books, alleging that these materials were used to incite and organize the recent protest.”

The NEC meeting, scheduled to be held virtually, is set for 4 pm to allow Labour leaders to deliberate on the appropriate response to the invasion and its accompanying issues.
