The call for IG’s dismissal by #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest organizers

In response to the tragic killing of protesters, the Organising Committee behind #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria is demanding the immediate dismissal of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

This demand was expressed during a candlelight symposium held in honor of the victims at the Rights House in Ikeja, Lagos State.

Recently, the committee, operating from the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota, Lagos, had declared a three-day mourning period for those who lost their lives nationwide in the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests.

The hunger strike, initially planned for ten days, is now in its ninth day as of Friday.

Amnesty International has accused the Nigerian security forces of being responsible for the deaths of at least 21 protesters during a series of demonstrations against economic hardships.

During the candlelight symposium, Comrade Hassan Taiwo, a committee member and National Spokesperson of the Youth Rights Campaign, stressed the critical need to dismiss the IGP, highlighting that over 40 individuals have lost their lives nationwide. He firmly stated, “We are demanding the sacking of the Inspector General of Police.”

Concurrently, the CDHR candlelight procession is set to kick off in Alausa following the symposium.
