Obasanjo Urges Nigerian Government to Pay Attention to Youths’ Demands

In a meeting with six members of the National Assembly in Abeokuta, Ogun State, former President Olusegun Obasanjo emphasized the importance of the Federal Government of Nigeria listening to the demands and concerns of the youth involved in the nationwide protests.

He stated that the reasons behind the protests were legitimate and ignoring them could lead to severe consequences.

These lawmakers are advocating for a bill that proposes a single six-year presidential term with rotation between the North and South.

Obasanjo urged the government not to underestimate the concerns raised by the youth.

Reflecting on the situation, he questioned why some Nigerians are living in poverty while being citizens of the same country, emphasizing the frustration, desperation, anger, and unemployment faced by many youths.

He stressed the need for a collective effort to elevate Nigeria to its full potential, highlighting the necessity for a shift in mindset among the leadership.

Obasanjo emphasized that the crucial factor is not the specific political term length but rather the need for a change in the mentality of those in power for Nigeria to progress.
