Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission Requires N250,000 from LG Chairmanship Candidates

In preparation for the local government election scheduled for November 16 in Ogun State, the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has announced an administrative fee of N250,000 for chairmanship candidates.

During a stakeholders’ meeting at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, the Chairman of OGSIEC, Babatunde Osibodu, represented by Olatunji Akoni, disclosed that councillorship candidates would be required to pay an administrative fee of N150,000, while female councillorship candidates have a reduced fee of N100,000.

The fees were set with the intention to promote female participation, as Osibodu emphasized the commission’s commitment to gender sensitivity and advocating for women’s involvement in the democratic process.

The OGSIEC Chairman reiterated, “The administrative charges for the political parties presenting candidates at the elections are N250,000 per chairmanship candidate, N150,000 per male councillorship candidate, and N100,000 per female councillorship candidate.”

He assured that the upcoming election would be conducted in a transparent and unbiased manner to truly represent the desires of the grassroots population.

Yinka Williams, the Chairman of the Social Democratic Party in Ogun State, urged OGSIEC to take steps to reassure political parties of the credibility and fairness of the election, stressing the importance of voter registration.

The stakeholders’ meeting saw the presence of representatives from security agencies, traditional leaders, political parties, and other relevant entities.
