Abia Warriors FC receives substantial reward as Otti takes charge

In recognition of their achievement in reaching the finals of the 2023/2024 FA Cup, the players and management of Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia have been generously rewarded by the Abia State government. The team put up a gallant fight but lost to El Kanemi, marking a historic milestone for Abia Warriors.

Governor Otti welcomed the team at his residence in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, expressing his congratulations to the players, management, and the board for making the state proud. He expressed optimism for their future success, declaring that the club will clinch the FA Cup trophy in the next finals they reach.

Governor Otti affirmed, “The next time around, you will lift the FA Cup,” showing his confidence in the team’s abilities. He also pledged to provide a new coaster bus for Abia Warriors FC next week to enhance their mobility.

Furthermore, the Governor assured the players of his administration’s unwavering support to help them achieve individual and club milestones akin to football legends like Jay Jay Okocha and Cristiano Ronaldo. He expressed his commitment to addressing the club’s needs despite financial constraints, promising to fulfill requests as resources permit.

As a token of appreciation, the Abia state government announced a donation of N30 million for the players. Additionally, Governor Otti personally gifted the team N5 million through the Alex Otti Foundation, while notable individuals like Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika, Sen. Darlington Nwaokocha, and Chinedu Onyeizu contributed varying amounts to support the club.

The ceremony was attended by prominent figures including the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu, and the Hon. Commissioner for Sports, Nwaobilor Ananaba, among others.
