The implication of displaying foreign flags during protests, according to the IGP

According to Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, being seen with flags of other countries during protests can have serious implications.

IGP Egbetokun cautioned Nigerian youths against accepting foreign flags from individuals seeking to cause unrest.

These remarks were made during a press briefing on national security held on Tuesday amid widespread demonstrations against economic challenges in the nation.

The police chief disclosed that several individuals have been apprehended in connection with displaying Russian flags during the protests, and they will face appropriate consequences.

“In states like Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, and Bauchi, there are groups engaging in subversive activities, waving foreign flags and openly advocating for a military coup,” he stated.

“These actions go beyond mere protest and amount to treason. We have already arrested a number of these individuals and they will face the full extent of the law. They will be charged accordingly,” he added.

“I urge the youth to refrain from endorsing foreign flags distributed by those aiming to disrupt the peace and stability of our country.

“It is highly incriminating for individuals to showcase flags of other nations while participating in protests.”
