Ezekwesili’s Advice to Tinubu and Governors on Ending Bad Governance

In the midst of nationwide protests against hunger entering its sixth day, former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili has offered advice to President Bola Tinubu and the 36 state governors on ways to lead Nigeria out of its current challenges.

Ezekwesili criticized the actions of the governors for trying to stifle citizens’ voices, using threats and violence, and appearing indifferent to their suffering.

She took to her X handle on Monday to urge Tinubu, governors, and other political leaders to seize the opportunity to address the cries for an end to bad governance in Nigeria.

Instead of silencing protesters, Ezekwesili emphasized the importance of engaging with them directly to understand their demands and grievances.

She urged the government officials to step out of their comfort zones, interact with citizens on the protest grounds, and listen attentively to their concerns.

For both short-term and long-term issues, Ezekwesili called for a comprehensive plan of action to address the root causes of discontent and advocated for a national conversation led by Tinubu and other political leaders to navigate a way forward.

In conclusion, Ezekwesili stressed that the power to effect change still lies in the hands of the Nigerian government and its leaders.
