Travel Warnings Issued by Nigeria, Indonesia, and Australia Regarding UK

Several countries including Nigeria, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, and Canada have cautioned their citizens against traveling to the United Kingdom due to violent riots that have erupted across the nation.

The unrest began following a tragic knife attack at a children’s dance class in Southport, northwest England, resulting in the deaths of three girls and injuries to 10 others as reported by Reuters.

Misinformation circulating about the attacker being an immigrant and radical Islamist has fueled protests, although authorities have clarified that the suspect, a British-born individual, is not linked to terrorism.

Reports from foreign media indicate over 420 arrests made amidst social media-driven riots spreading throughout the UK. Incidents like a petrol-bombed hotel hosting asylum seekers in Rotherham have led to clashes with the police, resulting in injuries to 10 riot officers.

Addressing the nation on Sunday, Prime Minister Keir Starmer pledged to take all necessary actions to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In response to the escalating violence, Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by Ambassador Eche Abu-Ode, advised citizens to avoid political gatherings, rallies, and crowded places while remaining vigilant.

Highlighting the increased risk of violence and disorder due to recent riots in the UK, the Ministry emphasized the importance of citizen safety by avoiding potential flashpoints and staying cautious at all times.

Additionally, Nigerian students in the UK were urged by the National Association of Nigerian Students in Diaspora to exercise caution and steer clear of violence-prone locations to ensure their safety and well-being.

Joining the cautionary measures, Malaysia, Indonesia, Canada, and Australia have also issued travel advisories to their citizens, stressing the importance of avoiding protest areas and staying informed about the situation.

Canada raised its travel risk assessment for the UK citing terrorism threats, while Australia advised exercising a high level of caution during visits due to potential disruptions and violence in protest-affected areas.
