Al-Ahli’s Bid for Ekong

AE Pro League side Shabab Al-Ahli has made an offer for Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong to strengthen their defense after finishing second in the 2023/24 season, according to reports from PUNCH Sports Extra.

For a while now, Troost-Ekong has been a target for the Saudi Arabian club, and now Greek outlet Gazzetta Greece has confirmed that they have submitted an offer for the experienced defender.

The 30-year-old has been in exceptional form, notably helping Nigeria secure a second-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast and earning the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award.

His outstanding performances have caught the attention of various clubs, including Shabab Al-Ahli, who are relying on their manager, Paulo Souza, to assist in securing the Nigerian player.

Souza and Ekong previously worked together at Salernitana before the Portuguese coach was dismissed in October 2023, shortly after the defender’s move to PAOK Salonika in Greece.

Recently, Sousa signed a two-year contract with UAE Pro League side Shabab Al-Ahli and is eager to add Ekong to his squad.

“William Trost Ekong is being pursued by Sabab Al Ahli, with an offer also being made to PAOK to secure the experienced defender,” as reported by Gazzetta.

“William Trost Ekong has long been scouted by various teams who believe he is the ideal player to enhance their defensive capabilities.

“Shebab Al Ahli are reportedly one of these teams, showing interest in his signature since June and continuing to pursue him. Notably, Paulo Souza, who previously worked with him at Salernitana, is now at Al Ahli and keen on bringing him to the United Arab Emirates.”

Troost-Ekong, who clinched the 2023/2024 Greek Super League title with PAOK FC, has expressed his contentment at the club on numerous occasions.
