MTN data revenue experiences a growth of 55%

In the first half of 2024, MTN Nigeria witnessed a significant increase of 54.7% in data revenue. This growth was primarily fueled by the expansion of its user base and a rise in data usage.

The latest financial results released by the company for the period ending June 2024 highlighted the surge in data revenue, which was supported by improvements in service quality and a high demand for data services.

Moreover, MTN disclosed that the implementation of price optimization on select data bundles in Q4 2023 also played a key role in boosting data revenue.

The company’s user base expansion was evident from its 4G network coverage, which increased to 82%, showing a slight growth of 0.5% from December 2023. Additionally, 5G coverage expanded to 12.7%, marking a 1.5% increase.

Expressing satisfaction with the positive commercial progress in their connectivity business and platforms, MTN attributed the 32.6% service revenue growth to the expanding user base. The report emphasized the resilience in demand for their data, voice, fintech, and digital services, all of which recorded double-digit growth.

The penetration of smartphones also saw an uptick to 55.9%, rising by 2.9% year-on-year, driving a notable 30.5% increase in data usage per user to 10.6 GB. Data traffic witnessed an equally impressive growth of 42.6%, according to the report.
