Lagos chief’s murder: DPP indicts police inspector.

Inspector Dikko Usman of the Nigeria Police Force and others have been indicted by the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions in the murder case of Chief Fatai Jubril, the Baale of Lotu community in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area.

PUNCH Metro learned that the officer has been dismissed from the force and is facing charges in court.

The indictment of the inspector was outlined in the DPP’s advisory to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Command Headquarters. The document, signed by DPP Deputy Director Sunmonu Tunde on behalf of the state Attorney General, mentioned that Dikko, Omotola Adeboyejo, and Wasiu Agbaraojo would be prosecuted for conspiracy to commit murder and murder.

Chief Jubril was fatally shot in the presence of his wife, Ejiro Jubril, and teenage daughter in Lagos on July 15, 2023, following a land dispute.

The widow recounted being assaulted while trying to protect her husband from about 50 hoodlums, including two Mobile Police officers who were involved in the attack.

According to the deceased’s brother, Moshood, “They killed my brother in front of his family and later took his body to Akodo Police Station.”

The DPP advisory mentioned that eyewitness accounts and the chief’s death certificate confirmed that he was fatally shot by one of the Mobile Policemen brought to the scene by Omotola Adeboyejo on July 15, 2023.

Despite conflicting reports on which officer fired the fatal shots, the ballistic report attributed Jubril’s death to shots from Usman’s rifle.

When questioned about why the second Mobile Police officer was not charged, Zone 2 Command Headquarters spokesperson Ayuba Umma explained that the officer had been demoted internally as they were not both responsible for the shooting incident.
