Blessing Oborududu’s Pursuit for Gold Ends in Semifinal Match, Secures Spot in Bronze Medal Contest

In a tough match on Monday, Blessing Oborududu, the world number 6 and a silver medalist in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, was defeated by Meerim Zhumanazarova of Kyrgyzstan with a 1-3 score, missing out on a spot in the final.

The semifinal clash in the women’s 68kg wrestling category at the 2024 Paris Olympics unfolded at the Champ-de-Mars Arena.

Earlier that day, Oborududu had a convincing victory over her Canadian opponent, Linda Morais, with a score of 8-2 to secure a spot in the quarterfinals.

Progressing to the quarterfinal, she triumphed over Larroque Koumba from France with a score of 6-2, showcasing a strong start in the Olympics before facing defeat against Zhumanazarova in the semifinal.

Despite her efforts, Oborududu fell short of the opportunity to be the first Nigerian wrestler to reach consecutive Olympic Games finals.
