The rebuke of Governor Lawal by Northern youths for covering up failures under the guise of protests

Expressing their discontent, a group of young individuals in the northern region, operating as the Coalition of Northern Youths for Peace and Stability (CNYPS), heavily criticized Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, accusing him of inadequately handling the ongoing EndBadGovernance demonstrations.

Alleging that the governor was using the protests as a camouflage to conceal his administration’s incompetence, extensive corruption, and lack of direction, the coalition voiced their concerns.

During a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, the spokesperson for the group, Muhammad Garba Yahaya, denounced the governor for his failure to address the insecurity issues within the state effectively.

The coalition expressed dismay at how thugs and troublemakers managed to infiltrate and take control of the peaceful protests under the governor’s administration, ultimately leading to violent disruptions, looting, and property destruction.

They laid the blame squarely on the governor for the chaos that ensued during the protests, emphasizing the need for Governor Lawal to refocus his attention on tackling the pressing security challenges and endemic corruption in Zamfara State, rather than resorting to diversionary tactics to divert attention from his administration’s evident weaknesses.

The coalition also suggested that Governor Lawal should collaborate with all relevant stakeholders to pacify the situation and engage in negotiations to restore peace, all the while concentrating on rejuvenating the deteriorating state of Zamfara.

By choosing his current course of action, the coalition argued that the governor was reinforcing his image as someone involved in extensive corruption and governing over a state plagued by the highest levels of insecurity in the nation, risking irreparable damage to his reputation.

Highlighting the urgent need for addressing these critical issues, the coalition warned that Governor Lawal’s reputation hung perilously on the edge of collapse.
