Plateau State Governor Introduces 24-Hour Curfew for Jos North and Bukuru Cities

The imposition of a 24-hour curfew in Jos North and Bukuru metropolis in Plateau State has been announced by Governor Caleb Mutfwang. This decision aims to bolster security measures and maintain public order, as emphasized by the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, in a press statement.

In consultation with state security agencies, Governor Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang decided to enforce the curfew, effective from 12 midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2024, after reviewing the activities of malicious individuals who took advantage of the national protests to perpetrate violence against innocent civilians.

Expressing concerns over criminal elements armed with dangerous weapons looting shops and restaurants, Mutfwang stressed the importance of the curfew for the safety and well-being of all residents. He directed security agencies to ensure strict enforcement of the curfew in Jos/Bukuru Metropolis.

Warning against further acts of terrorism, the governor urged strict adherence to the curfew, with a stern message to those planning illegal activities to face legal consequences. He also commended the cooperation of Plateau State citizens, particularly the clergy and imams, for supporting government policies during the recent protests.

During and after the protests, the peaceful behavior of the people was lauded by Mutfwang, who called for the continuation of this culture to foster unity and progress in Plateau State.
