Speaker Tajuddeen Abbass Calls for Peace, Assures Protesters’ Demands Are Being Addressed by Government

Encouraging Nigerians participating in the ongoing nationwide protests to temporarily halt their demonstrations, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajuddeen Abbass, revealed that senior government officials are currently in discussions to tackle the country’s challenges.

In a statement released on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Kirishi, Abbass disclosed that he had relayed the grievances and requests put forward by the youth to President Bola Tinubu following a town hall meeting with them earlier in the week.

During an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Abbass reflected on his engagement with leaders and representatives of over 25 youth groups at the National Assembly, emphasizing the importance of fruitful discussions and problem-solving.

After gathering and relaying the concerns of the youth to President Tinubu, Abbass expressed the President’s commitment to addressing each issue raised one by one for the betterment of Nigerians.

While acknowledging the right to peaceful protest, Abbass warned against allowing demonstrations to result in the destruction of the country, citing instances where protests were exploited by unpatriotic elements in both Nigeria and developed nations.

Furthermore, Abbass highlighted the government’s efforts under the Tinubu administration to address security, economic challenges, and job scarcity, assuring Nigerians of imminent positive changes.

He also mentioned that key ministers participated in discussions with the youth, providing insights into the government’s initiatives to combat their struggles.
