Unrest in Kano Leads to Movement Restrictions by Police as Youth Sustain Protest

On Saturday morning in Kano, hundreds of protesters, mostly young boys, gathered for the #EndBadGovernance protest, marking the third consecutive day of demonstrations.

In various areas such as Kurna Asabe, Jain, and Brigade, our correspondent witnessed the youths continuing with their protests.

The State Police Commissioner, Salman Dogo Garba, informed our reporter that a group of youths, allegedly part of a gathering organized by an unnamed politician at the Nassarawa Palace of Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, took to the streets, chanting anti-government slogans.

According to him, “There was indeed a group of individuals who capitalized on an event organized by a politician to extend their disruptive protests, but we have brought the situation under control.”

Despite identifying himself as a journalist, our correspondent was denied access at the Audu Bako Secretariat while trying to reach the State NUJ Office located at the Firm Center.

Similarly, on Ahmadu Bello Way, armed officers blocked the entire road, declaring a curfew in the town and prohibiting passage for anyone, including members of the press.

Following the unrest on August 1, where protesters engaged in looting and arson, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf enforced a 24-hour curfew in Kano.
