Police in Borno uncover 6 projectile grenades believed to be left behind by terrorists

In Maiduguri’s Ajilari Cross area, Borno Police Command revealed the discovery of six projectile grenades suspected to have been abandoned by terrorists.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Yusuf Lawal, reported the finding on Saturday during a situation update in Maiduguri, mentioning that the grenades were found the previous day.

Lawal stated that the Explosive Ordnance Device (EOD) personnel from Base 13 assessed the grenades at the site and confirmed they were made with incendiary chemicals.

After a thorough screening of the affected area, the grenades were safely recovered intact, making the location secure.

“On a different note, 20 individuals were apprehended in Maiduguri for setting tires on fire and provoking unrest,” he said.

“They are presently being interrogated and investigated for a fair trial,” he added.

Lawal narrated another violent episode that took place on the same day in Bassam Galomari Village, Gubio II Ward, in Gubio Local Government Area.

He mentioned that Fulani herdsmen with cattle reportedly trespassed on a local resident’s farm, sparking a confrontation.

Lawal explained, “The farm owner tried to evict the herdsmen from his property, but they resisted and one of the Fulani men assaulted him, causing injuries to both his hands.”

“The victim was promptly taken to Gubio Hospital and later referred to Maiduguri Hospital for further medical attention,” he stated.

Security agencies have been instructed to address the situation and handle the crisis effectively, Lawal noted.

He emphasized the continuous vigilance of security forces to ensure public safety and avert any potential incidents.
