Kano Police Actions Following Protests

The Kano State Police Command has launched a thorough search operation to retrieve stolen items from the #EndbadgovernanceinNigeria protest in Kano.

Initially peaceful, the protest was later hijacked by suspected hoodlums who looted stores, houses, and government facilities, such as the Nigerian Communication Commission’s office, stealing furniture and electronics.

They also damaged streetlights and other public property.

Following this, the police detained more than 400 suspects and recovered some of the stolen items.

According to social media reports by Sa’adatu Baba Ahmad, police personnel conducted search operations in the Yakasai and Durumin Zungura neighborhoods in Kano Municipal area to retrieve the stolen goods on Friday.

In her post, she mentioned, “Since 10:30am, looted items are being recovered from the houses of people who stole property of the government and innocent people in the name of protest. Up till now, they are there invading the houses.”

During a briefing earlier on Friday, the Kano Police Command reiterated its determination to ensure those behind the protest-related violence are held accountable.
