Living Her Olympic Dream: Chioma Onyekwere

Chioma Onyekwere, the Nigerian women’s discus thrower, is experiencing a fantastic time at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. She has been sharing her excitement daily on her social media platforms ever since the beginning of the multi-sports event, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.

As a mechanical engineer, this is her second appearance at the Games but her first time competing. She was previously disqualified from competing in Tokyo 2020 due to not meeting the required number of pre-tournament dope tests, which dampened her spirits in Tokyo. However, the joy of participating in Paris has brought her emotions to new heights.

In a video shared on Friday, she gave a glimpse into her daily life, from enjoying her morning coffee to training after work. Meanwhile, in another video on Thursday, Cici, as she is fondly called, shared her delight about the excellent accommodation provided by Team Nigeria in Paris, showcasing the amenities in each apartment.

“Team Nigeria has a dedicated building with 5 floors of suites for athletes and coaches. Each suite displayed comes with 3 bedrooms, accommodating two persons each. They include 2 full bathrooms, a communal area, and a balcony. The bedrooms feature cardboard beds, tableside desks with lockable drawers, lamps, extension cables, and drying racks. The communal area has pink bean bags, a quarter couch, and 3 cardboard stools.”

The finals for the women’s discus event are scheduled for Monday, August 5 at 2:30 p.m.
