Rena Wakama, D’Tigress Coach, Explains Reasons for Loss to France in Paris 2024 Olympics

In the recent match against France, D’Tigress head coach Rena Wakama acknowledged that her team did not perform at their peak.

The African champions suffered a disappointing 75-54 defeat to the hosts in their second group game of the women’s basketball event at the 2024 Olympic Games.

Following their impressive win over Australia in the opening game, there were high expectations for D’Tigress in the tournament.

However, the West African team was clearly dominated by the French during the game.

Wakama lamented, “We didn’t execute our game plan, we were not ourselves. The elements that led to our victory on Monday were missing today,” as reported by FIBA.com.

She added, “It’s challenging when you allow the opposing team to have a 63% shooting accuracy inside the paint… It’s difficult to defeat any team when that happens. We need to return to our usual playing style.”

In their upcoming match, D’Tigress will be up against Canada in their final group game scheduled for Sunday.
