Neo-Black Movement Urges Tinubu to Prevent Violence Against Protesters

Amidst the nationwide kickoff of the #EndBadGovernance protest, the Neo-Black Movement, NBM, of Africa has called upon President Bola Tinubu to instruct security agencies to refrain from inciting violence against peaceful demonstrators.

In a statement titled “Suppression of Right to Peaceful Protest: A Violation of the Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of Organization Policy,” issued by Otunba Fola Ogunmefun, the National Head and President of NBM Africa, the message was conveyed to the press in Benin City.

Ogunmefun urged the President to assure Nigerians that no lives would be endangered during the protest, emphasizing their right to demonstrate peacefully.

He stated that by taking this action, the President would demonstrate to the global community that Nigeria values human life as sacred.

Furthermore, he called upon all security agencies to fulfill their duty of safeguarding the Nigerian populace, providing adequate security for peaceful protesters, ensuring that their rights were respected, and guaranteeing their safety.

Addressing a statement attributed to Ese Stanley Kakor, the former National Head and President of the organization, regarding the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest, Ogunmefun criticized the position as being against the rights of Nigerians and misleading.

He expressed, “The unauthorized statement made by Ese Stanley Kakor infringes upon the fundamental and constitutional rights of Nigerians, contravenes the principles of democracy, equality, and social justice, which are the cornerstone objectives of the NBM of Africa.”

Ogunmefun called on Nigerians to disregard Kakor’s statement and urged them to fulfill their civic and constitutional responsibilities, ensuring that the protest for a better Nigeria remains peaceful and free from disruption by criminal elements.

He emphasized, “It is important to note that the NBM of Africa is a legally registered non-governmental and non-political organization.”
