Clearing Half-Salary Backlog: Adeleke Settles N1.6 Billion Debt

In an announcement on Thursday, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke confirmed the settlement of the October 2022 cooperative deductions that were inherited from the previous administration of Mr. Gboyega Oyetola.

Additionally, the governor disclosed the clearance of another half-salary debt, making a total of seven months’ worth of half-salaries settled by the current administration.

A statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, highlighted that Adeleke had inherited significant amounts in pension, cooperative deductions, and half-salaries from both the governments of Gboyega Oyetola and Rauf Aregbesola, spanning the 12-year period of APC government rule in the state.

“Yesterday, the state government fulfilled the payment of the October 2022 cooperative deductions, amounting to N971,823,786.59.

“In addition to the deduction settlement, the government also disbursed N716,401,287.13 for the seventh half-salary payment. The overall amount paid sums up to N1,688,225,073.72,” the statement outlined.

Governor Adeleke reiterated the government’s dedication to gradually settling all outstanding pension, salary, and deduction debts, aligning with the core agenda of his administration.

“I am fully committed to alleviating the suffering of workers and residents in our beloved state. We are utilizing state resources to address various societal needs.

“Our efforts encompass a wide range from workers’ welfare to ensuring food security and accessibility. We are catering to students’ requirements through bursary disbursements and other initiatives. Continuously, we are implementing strategies to cater to the healthcare needs of our elderly population.

“Our government has effectively combined both soft and hard infrastructural development. Our infrastructure plan is progressing at a faster pace than anticipated. Osun is making significant strides towards achieving a four-year development plan within a mid-term framework,” he emphasized.
