Rivalry between Tottenham and Chelsea over Osimhen signing intensifies

Tottenham Hotspur is gearing up to challenge Chelsea in acquiring Napoli’s talented striker Victor Osimhen to address the gap left by Harry Kane’s departure, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.

The London-based club has been closely following the progress of the 25-year-old Nigerian international, with reports from Football Insider indicating the strong desire of Spurs’ manager, Ange Postecoglou, to secure a new striker during this transfer window.

Osimhen, who made a significant move to Napoli in 2020 for a record fee of €77.5m, has been delivering impressive performances in Serie A, notably during the 2022–23 season. However, speculations suggest the striker is eyeing a departure from the Italian club, opening doors for English Premier League clubs.

Chelsea has been actively negotiating with Napoli, exploring a potential deal that might involve exchanging players, including Romelu Lukaku. In response, Tottenham is contemplating the idea of including their own players as part of the offer to secure Osimhen’s services.

A prospective agreement to sign the 25-year-old would demand a substantial financial commitment, given that Napoli has set a release clause of €130m in his contract. The decision of Spurs’ chairman, Daniel Levy, to make such a significant investment remains uncertain.

Bringing Osimhen to Tottenham would not only showcase their ambition by adding a prolific goal scorer but could also symbolize a new era for the club in the years ahead.

Despite receiving tempting offers from the Saudi Pro League, Osimhen has been vocal about his preference for a move to the Premier League. As the transfer saga unfolds, both Tottenham and Chelsea are eager to secure the services of one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe.
