Police Compartment at FCT Checkpoint Set Ablaze; Four Arrested

Reports from the Federal Capital Territory Police Command indicated that hoodlums attacked and burnt a police container compartment at the Nyanya checkpoint.

Additionally, there was an incident where individuals attempted to vandalize the Tipper garage Police Post in the Nyanya region of the FCT.

It is important to note that despite circulating rumors, the Nyanya Divisional Police Headquarters was not set ablaze as claimed by some sources.

According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, four suspects involved in the attempted vandalism of the Tipper Garage Police Post have been apprehended.

Adeh clarified, “Contrary to the widespread news suggesting that the Nyanya Police Division was destroyed by violent demonstrators, the FCT Police Command confirms that it was the police container compartment at the Nyanya checkpoint that was burnt, along with the four suspects, Mathias Jude, 29, ‘M’ from Nyanya Area D, Mohammad Ahmed, 23, Abba Jibril, 18, and Mohammad Haruna, 18, who have been taken into custody.”

Expressing concern, Adeh mentioned that the FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, disapproved of the destruction of public and police infrastructure during the protest.

She warned that those found guilty would be held accountable under the law.

Adeh emphasized, “While recognizing the right of residents to protest, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth C. Igweh, condemns the act of damaging public or police facilities. Individuals engaged in violent acts leading to public property destruction will face legal consequences.”
