Government Extends Employee Verification Process

An extension of the deadline for workers’ verification has been announced by the Federal Government, shifting the previous date from July 31 to August 15, 2024, according to sources at NewsNow.

Civil servants are required to confirm their identities through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System portal in response to the forthcoming suspension of salaries and penalties for fictitious employees.

It has been noted that civil servants have been in a rush to obtain their Taxpayers Identification Number.

One of the verification prerequisites is the TIN, in addition to the IPPIS number and salary account details.

On Thursday, an official notice announcing the extension of the verification process was spotted by our correspondent.

“Federal Government workers who receive their monthly salaries through the treasury are informed that the IPPIS verification portal deadline has been moved to August 15, 2024.

“Hence, all federal employees are required to update their payroll information by Thursday, August 15, 2024, midnight,” the notice stated.

A senior civil servant, confirming the development, mentioned to our correspondent: “Yes, it’s correct. Initially, some civil servants, particularly university staff, were resistant. I believe this is why the deadline was extended to August 15.”

President Bola Tinubu has instructed that all government employees who continue to receive salaries after moving abroad must reimburse the funds.

Furthermore, the President mandated that the supervisors and department heads of the offenders be penalized for assisting in the perpetration of the fraud during their tenure.

“While in South Africa during my recent visit, I was informed about the events of the week.

“I was particularly shocked by the revelations made by the Head of the Civil Service regarding employees who relocated abroad but continued to draw salaries without proper resignation.

“It’s reassuring to know that steps have been taken to address the issue, but we must ensure that those responsible are held accountable and repay what they have taken fraudulently.

“The individuals at fault must return all unlawfully obtained money,” Tinubu emphasized.

He reiterated the government’s determination to take necessary actions to ensure they face consequences and reimburse the treasury.
