Warning from Police Authorities in Yobe Against Violence and Infrastructure Destruction During Protest

A statement from the Yobe State Command of the Nigeria Police Force strongly condemns the destruction of public and private property during today’s protests in the areas of Potiskum, Gashu’a, and Nguru Local Government.

The command, through its Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, characterized the situation as an unacceptable display of lawlessness.

Emphasizing its readiness to maintain public order and safety, the police command asserts its commitment to enforcing the curfew imposed by the State Government in the affected regions.

While acknowledging the right to peaceful assembly, the command underscores that this right is not absolute and should not impinge on the rights of others. It stated, “Any criminal activities will face strong opposition.”

A stern warning was issued to individuals with ill intentions, indicating that any further violence will be met with resolute action.

Earlier in the day, protesters in Potiskum town set vehicles ablaze at the local government secretariats, prompting the enforcement of a 24-hour curfew in Potiskum, Gashu’a, and Nguru to restore law and order.
